How To Develop Positive Habits and Achieve Your Dreams

My beloved friend!

In this article, I will teach you what are the key habits and how to develop them to overcome challenges and become successful in life.

Let’s look at some of the benefits associated with developing positive habits in life.

Benefits of developing positive habits:

  • Helps you reach goals

  • Helps you live a fulfilling life

  • Improve your quality life and health

  • Improves mental health

  • Brings order or organises life

1. Set goals and review them daily

Goals are the ultimate skill that you need to develop in order to manifest things into reality.

Goals help you direct your energy and awareness of things you desire, and away from the things undesirable.

When you set goals, you bring forces beyond your control and ability to accomplish your goals.

First, write down 100+ most desirable goals that you would love to accomplish in your lifetime. Go through magazine books or videos to get ideas. Don’t rush this process. Allow them to come to you naturally.

Next, identify 2-3 goals you would love to accomplish within the next 90 days out of the list you’ve created.

Sample goals:

  • I will seek inner peace or Union with God.

  • I will write 6 articles and publish them online.

  • I will land a new role that I love in counselling.

  • I will apply to 50 new roles and get 10 interviews.

  • I will receive a promotion in my current company.

  • I will buy a new Tesla and drive to places I love.

  • I will earn and receive $30,000 USD in the next 3 months.

  • I will do 100 hours of counselling.

  • I will spend 90 hours on Personal Development.

Review your goals daily and track your progress to see how you are progressing.

2. Keep and use a journal as a second brain

Keep a journal to write things down. Use the journal as a companion and a second brain.

When you write things down it helps you process and see your thoughts and emotions clearly, helping you develop better outcomes for your life.

I use my journal as a second brain to help me think clearly. I regularly use my journal to brainstorm solutions for problems, create action plans for the future and set goals, in addition to writing my thoughts and feelings.

Here are few things you can think about to writing down:

  • Thoughts

  • Ideas

  • Feelings

  • Obstacles and challenges

  • Fears

  • Goals

  • Plans of action

3. Create daily task list for the next day

Before you start each day make sure to write down key tasks and activities that you would like to complete the next day.

Creating a task list will help you organise the day much better and help you feel less chaotic about life.

The lack of order of the day leads to mental disorders such as anxiety and chronic stress because of the number of things we need to keep in our minds.

Many people lack the focus to complete the tasks for the day because they simply aren't sure what needs to get prioritised and completed.

The best way to resolve this is to organise key daily activities.

When you are starting out, do not list too many activities as it causes more stress than needed.

Set a maximum of 6-8 key tasks for the next day when you are first starting out. Increase the number of activities as you get comfortable if needed.

It is important that you fill the list with activities you love to complete as much as things you “have to”. Over time, replace the “have tos” with “love tos” taks in daily task list.

4. Become a perpetual learner

Becoming a student for life is one the best traits you can develop for yourself. Learning how to learn is the ultimate superskill.

Becoming a lifelong learner not only will advance in your career, it can help you develop happiness and peace in your life.

Being a perpetual learner will help you overcome your mistakes and correct them quickly.

Dedicate 1 hour each day to read a book or take a course that will help you develop skills and abilities.

One of the best things you can learn is Personal Development. One of my teachers, Brian Tracy, calls this the Golden Hour Rule. He reminds us to spend at least one hour towards developing the Personal Development Skill as this skill has the greatest impact on your productivity, success and happiness.

Make a list of books and courses that you always wanted to read or take, and begin with them.

Others have gone through the journey you are going through now. Become fearless through learning and continuous study of those who have gone before you.

Its important to learn what you love, until you love learning.

5. Exercise your body

Durable, strong body is vital for developing a strong mind.

Purpose of exercise should be to help you become stronger and durable so you can approach life with vigour and excitement.

Purpose of working out is not to show off to others how you worked out or how certain body parts are smaller or larger than your fellows’ body parts. The purpose of your body is to fully enjoy the game of life, learn and serve other people.

Focus on getting 30-60 mins of daily exercise. Focus on daily consistency. Keep the workout and exercises below the pain thresholds, until you develop the habit. Focus your attention on developing the daily workout habit more than the intensity you deliver during the work. If you feel sore the next day, you are doing too much.

Make a list of your favourite exercises and workouts. This is critical. Start the ones you like the most.

  • Play sports

  • Take dance classes

  • Go for runs

  • Lift weights

Do the exercises you love, until you love exercising. I started with playing basketball.

6. Take responsibility for life and be fearless

While the purpose of human beings is to take care of other human beings, this does not mean you need to enslave yourself into situations that lead you to being exploited and becoming depressed about life.

We need to learn to work TOGETHER rather than against ourselves as we seek solutions to our problems.

Abolishing yours and others fear is one the primary objectives to overcoming difficulties in the human experience.

First, take complete responsibility for the decisions you have made in all aspects of life.

The more responsibility you can take for decisions and outcomes for your life, the higher your power is to change the circumstances to change your life.

More you diffuse responsibility or blame others for the outcomes we experience in life, the more out of control we feel about life and become distressed.

No magical being is going to take our pain away from us. It is us who must step and do the right thing, for ourselves and others.

It is us who should take the responsibility step in and protect those who are weak, and work together with ones who are strong.

7. Share and help other people as much as possible

As humans, the purpose of our life is to serve and take care of other human beings.

The skills and abilities you develop are meant for others. They are developed to bring joy, help and relieve the burden of other people for things they cannot do for themselves.

More problems and challenges you solve with your skills and abilities, the higher your income will rise and the respect you earn.

You pride yourself with many accolades and credentials. They are useless if the learnings you gained are not being utilised to advance other beings. The purpose of abilities is to advance others, not lord it over those who are still learning.

Most importantly, the greatest joy in life comes from the fact we know we have been useful and helpful to our fellow human beings. You will be well rewarded for the attempts and the success.

8. Spend time in quietness and meditate

Remember that inner self reflects outerself.

Spending time in quietness is the one of key to developing inner tranquillity and inner peace.

Learning to understand your inner self is a major challenge for human beings as they cannot visibly see what they are working on.

Spending time in quietness leads you to develop inner awareness that leads to better control and organisation of your life.

The first step in developing this ability is to spend time quietly each day with yourself. 15-30 minutes would be a great place to start.

Take your journal and write down thoughts, feelings, and emotions that come up on the way.

9. Rest, Relaxation and Sleep

Many people feel guilty about sleep and rest because they feel they are not doing enough in their lives to get ahead.

When we have been criticised in our lives for underperformance by our parents, bosses, teachers or ourselves, we feel we are not advancing our lives and therefore do not deserve the rest, sleep or the relaxation we need.

This is an error in understanding the human condition.

Human body has certain limitations that need to be understood and overcome through sleep and rest.

Even professional athletes need sleep to recover their bodies to bring the highest functioning form.

In fact, athletes such as Lebron James and Roger Federer are known to sleep 8-12 hours in order to rest their body.

In order to play the game of life effectively, you too must learn to sleep and like athletes to perform like athletes.

Focus on sleeping 8-10 hours a day. It does not need to be continuous. Naps can be highly beneficial.

10. Forgive yours and others mistakes

One of the main reasons we cannot let go of our past is because we cannot let go of the mistakes we and others have made.

Blaming yourself and others for past mistakes is a useless act since much of the time you are not aware of the full picture of why you and others act the way you do.

If you have gone through the struggles in life, you know that life is not easy for anyone. Each one of us is attempting to become a better version of ourselves.

The correct approach is to identify the mistake and work together to correct it.

Do not let yourself be blamed or ashamed by others or yourself.

We are all learning how to play the game of life effectively and we all make mistakes. Remember, we do not always know what we are doing.

If you understand something better than someone else, don’t ridicule or criticize them. Help them learn and correct their mistakes instead.

Remember, what we do unto others is done upon yourself. Forgive others to be forgiven.

That’s it from me!

Much love!
