How to Start a Career in Digital Marketing
Are you looking to start a career in IT or Marketing?
If so, Digital Marketing may be for you.
Digital Marketing Specialists are very much in demand.
In the last 8 years, I have been working in Digital Marketing Advisor and Consultant for enterprise companies. I have worked with and helped 100s marketers with their work and careers.
Personally, I have helped 5 people get started and accelerate their career in Digital Marketing. Some of them are running their own digital marketing companies.
Here is the advice I would give to myself, If were to start over.

Step 1: Understand key digital marketing skills
Understand and get to know the key skills and basic concepts in Digital Marketing. Start exploring them on the internet. Use Youtube and read blogs on the following areas:
Content Marketing
Copywriting
Email Marketing and Marketing Automation (i.e Mailchimp, Hubspot, ActiveCampaign)
Customer Relationship Management (CRM) technologies (i.e. Salesforce, MS Dynamics)
Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
Social Media Marketing (SMM)
Paid Search (i.e. Google Ads)
Analytics (i.e. Google Analytics)
Don't worry about learning them all.
Start with one area that speaks to you.
Step 2: Start with your certifications
Start with your favorite 1-2 digital marketing certification. I have curated list of free certificates for you to start.
These are industry recognized certificates. Here is the ones I recommend you begin with:
Google Ads Certifications (there 6 sperate certifications here to choose from)
Step 3: Get an internship
Look to join an agency. They may or may not pay you. Learn the best practices from the veterans and pros. Put 6-12 months. Cheaper than university or college.

Step 4: Build your website using simple tools
Having your own website shows employers and clients that you are professional and credible. Use simple and easy to use webtools to build it out.
Step 5: Update your LinkedIn
There are close to 800 million professionals in the platform. They are looking for people who can solve problems and are knowledgeable.
Use LinkedIn's network effects to its full advantage.

Your Headline – Explain who you are | Who and how and what you solve.
Your Profile Picture– Get a professional or near-professional headshot.
Your Banner photo – Create one using Canva.
Your Recommendations – Ask your past clients, colleagues and managers for one.
Step 6: Find a mentor or community who is willing to guide you
